Kinnaird Head Lighthouse and museum Fraserburgh 2009

The museum building contains several galleries containing a fabulous collection of glass lenses and lighting technology. The Kinnaird Head Lighthouse is a fascinating example of fitting new wine into an old bottle. This fine 16th century castle built for the Fraser family was altered to take the first lighthouse built by the Commissioners of the Northern Lighthouses in 1787.

The lighthouse is still in working order but has now been replaced by a small unmanned light nearby. It remains much as it was left by the last lighthouse crew.

We visited this lighthouse on the 27th of April 2009.
